Once a Native American hunting and fishing stronghold, Biloxi slowly became a resort for landed gentry, and eventually home to Gulf-front mansions built by the wealthy fleeing New Orleans during the early 1800's Yellow Fever epidemic. In the 1990s, Biloxi began building gaming casinos, and fast became a hot destination for both domestic and international markets. A proliferation of restaurants, spa, golf courses, and other leisure attractions soon followed. Helping illuminate the way: The 65-foot Biloxi Lighthouse, a cast-iron tower built in 1848, and still standing tall. Biloxi offers a wide range of accommodations from mega hotel casinos to cozy inns.
